The Complete Updated Guide to the 2021 Electric City Music Conference in Scranton

Electric City Music’s eighth annual conference will feature nearly 100 bands at seven locations in Scranton, the Steamtown Music Awards with awards in 27 different categories and special performances, and free panel discussions for local musicians, professionals and music fans. . It’s a great opportunity to see all that the Northeastern Pennsylvania music scene has to offer, but it can be overwhelming when packed into three days, so NEPA Scene has put together a how-to guide to the conference. with dates, times, locations, prices and links for everything that happens from Thursday November 18 to Saturday November 20. Any last minute changes will be updated here.

This music-packed weekend kicks off with the Steamtown Music Awards at V-Spot (906 Providence Rd., Scranton) on Thursdays starting at 5:30 pm; it is free for all applicants and $ 10 at the door for the public.

All Friday and Saturday shows cost $ 5 at the door, or a daily pass to all venues costs $ 10. Tickets and passes can be purchased through Eventbrite or at all participating sites: Backyard Ale House, The Bog, Noir Dark Spirits, Peculiar Kitchen, The Railyard, Stage West, and The V-Spot.

This year’s special events include the first-ever conference film premiere, the XIXX: 25 Years and Counting show hosted by photographer Keith Perks, and a reunion of local death metal band Putrefied Flesh.

Zhach Kelsch made a living as a drummer for the last 20 years of his life. He will discuss the journey, the process and the sacrifices it took to get to where he is today. He will describe his path to transform his passion into a lasting career.

This is the Scranton premiere of the short film “Hometown Boys,” which follows “four idiots on a heist, a ton of neon-colored lube and a gimp at a quaint porn store in Scranton, PA” and asks: “What could go wrong?” Local music veteran and Scranton native Jamie Sutor wrote and directed the short. He and star Grant Terzakis will therefore host a question-and-answer session after the screening.

Learn how to use marketing tips to grow your bands, pack venues, sell shows, and become the band talent buyers want to book (and pay) to perform. Caviston currently sells between 350 and 800 tickets per month for its Emo Night events. Learn its secrets for packing rooms.

12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m .: Carl Canedy Roundtable – Choosing the Right Producer and the Ins and Outs of an Independent Recording Contract

Seasoned music industry veteran Carl Canedy will talk about how important it is to choose the right producer and explain to audiences the ins and outs of everything that goes into an independent recording contract. Canedy has produced groups like Anthrax, Exciter, Overkill and Attila. Playing with The Rods and Manowar, he is considered one of the founders of thrash metal.

2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m .: Roundtable by Josh Balz, Aaron Bruch, John Phillips and Kristopher Jones – The Importance of Building a Brand

The stacked panel includes Josh Balz (Motionless In White, The Strange and Unusual, Noir Dark Spirits), Aaron Bruch (Breaking Benjamin), John Phillips (900 Management, MCR Productions, Snoop Dogg, Body Count) and Kristopher B. Jones (Special) Guest App, Pepperjam), who all recently launched Parlor Beverages together. This team alone makes the pleasure of root beer. They have all created multiple brands, so the group will teach musicians, bands and businesses the importance of branding and what it can do for your career.
