The Fifth Global Conference on Artificial Intelligence, which kicked off in Shanghai on Thursday and will run through Saturday, will play a bigger role in driving innovation progress in the country, organizers said. event and attendees.

“As the industrial cluster continues to grow, a complete AI industry chain has basically formed, and the scale of the industry has greatly expanded. In 2021, the combined output value of AI enterprises above of a designated size, or with an annual turnover of 20 million yuan or above, has exceeded 300 billion yuan,” said Gong Zheng, Mayor of Shanghai.

The metropolis has also seen many key technological breakthroughs, with the acceleration of the construction of innovative multi-level platforms and the increase in the introduction of smart chips, Gong said.

He added that Shanghai has also gathered about a third of the country’s specialist AI talent.

Moreover, with the increasingly wide application of high-tech, Shanghai will see a batch of benchmark AI applications in the near future, Gong said.

Since 2018, the AI ​​talent pool in Shanghai has increased from 100,000 to 180,000, and the industrial scale of the city’s AI industry has doubled, showing that the development of a world-class industrial cluster world is underway, said Wu Jincheng, director of the Shanghai Municipal Economics and Informatization Commission.

“The Chinese government has attached great importance to the development of the AI ​​industry. Jin said AI is an important part of developing the digital economy. MIIT will grasp the characteristics of AI development, stick to openness and cooperation, and coordinate development and security to promote the deep integration of AI and the real economy in various directions. and achieve high-quality development.

No matter how fast AI develops, more efforts are needed to promote commercial applications of AI, said Robin Li, CEO of Baidu Inc.

Without good business prospects, a start-up will experience stagnant growth or even loss, and promising business prospects are equally important for large companies, Li said.
