Somalia: Hiran and Middle Shabelle disagree on the location of the conference
BELEDWEYNE, Somalia, September 5, 2015 (Garowe Online) –Governors of central Somalia, Hiran and Middle Shabelle, are at war over the location of the state training conference as the scheduled date has passed, reports Garowe Online.
Hiran Governor Abdifatah Hassan Afrah insists Beledweyne will host the convention while his Middle Shabelle counterpart Ali Gudlawe Hussein continues to view his remarks as “hasty and one-sided.”
In remarks to reporters, Afrah said his administration has already prepared essential equipment for the state training convention.
Meanwhile, the governor of Middle Shabelle wants bipartisan talks amid the new challenges brought on by the looming political clashes.
Under an agreement brokered by the Mogadishu-based federal government in early August, a 31-member technical committee is expected to advance the state formation process.
The agreement was reached in the presence of eleven ministers from the two regions and the United Nations envoy to Somalia, Ambassador Nicholas Kay.
