the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) opens Thursday, February 24 in Orlando, Florida, with donald trump once again his keynote speaker as he seeks to reestablish his grip on the Republican Party ahead of a long-running presidential race in 2024.

His audience can expect plenty of takes for the former president’s new Truth Social app, complaints about his ongoing legal troubles and more conspiracy theories about his defeat at the polls in 2020 – and he might even tighten the flag again.

A four-day gathering of right-wing activists from across the United States, CPAC was founded in 1974 by the American Union of Conservatives and Young Americans for Freedom and its inaugural address was delivered by Ronald Reaganthen governor of California and a candidate for president two years later, who used the platform to lay out his vision for the country.

It has since become a very important date in the conservative calendar, an opportunity for the American right to come together to compare notes on a range of issues concerning their value system, from the Second Amendment right to bear arms to the abortion.

“We won’t be canceled – and you don’t want to miss it!” is the tagline for this year’s event, strongly hinting at a flavor of “culture wars” in the proceedings.

Other high-profile guests addressing CPAC 2022 include the former Hawaii congresswoman and 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi GabbardBritain’s own “Mr Brexit” Nigel Farage and, strangest of all, pizza impresario Papa John himself.

the rest of the range is Magaworld’s familiar who’s who: Donald Trump Jr.; Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis; Candace Owens; Glenn Beck; Matt and Mercedes Schlapp; former Trump administration officials Mike Pompeo, Larry KudlowRobert O’Brien, Ric Grenell, Sean SpicerBen Carson, Sebastian GorkaMatt Whitaker and KT McFarland.

Senators Ted CruzRick Scott, Marsha Blackburn, Andy Biggs, Madison Cawthorn, James Langford, Mike Braun and Bill Hagerty are all guest speakers, as are members of Congress Lauren Boebert, Jim JordanByron Donalds, Ronny Jackson and Ken Buck.

Oddly enough, given the much lower billing than you’d expect, Republican frontrunners such as Marjorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gaetz, Kimberly Guilfoyle, Marco RubioJack Posobiec, JD Vance, Buck Sexton, Dr Oz and Eduardo Bolsonaro, sons of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, also known as “Trump of the Tropics”.

Perhaps less surprisingly, there is no room for Liz Cheney Where Adam Kinzingerwho have been censured by the Republican National Committee and accused of betraying Mr. Trump by serving on the House committee investigating the failed insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 and calling for the second impeachment of the 45th president for inciting the events of that day where five people died.

Also not present are the former vice-president Mike Pence and UN Ambassador Nikki Haleywho are both tipped to run against Mr. Trump in two years.

Instead, they’ll spend this weekend speaking at a Principles First summit, billed as “counterprogramming” at CPAC that promises to address “what conservatism means today and the future of our movement.” “.

Georgian Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and impeachment witness Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman will also speak at the impeachment.

Back in Orlando, some of the tantalizing events for CPAC attendees include talks with titles like “Fighting Woke Inc,” “Are You Ready to Be Called a Racist?: The Courage to Run for Office”; “War: A Tribute to Andrew Breitbart”; “All the news the left allows”; “Making Peace in the Middle East Greater”; “Put him to bed, lock her up and send her to the border”; “Why the Working Class Hates Democrats”; “Fire Fauci”; “The Chief Moron”; and “Biden’s Bread Lines.”

This year’s event runs Thursday morning through Sunday evening, February 27, and will be available to stream on CPAC’s website, YouTube, and major US news networks.

The Independent will host live blogs to cover its main events in addition to bringing you all the breakout stories.
