Africa’s trade prospects explored at major Paisley conference

Africa’s business prospects post-pandemic will be the focus of a major conference organized by the University of the West of Scotland (UWS).

Important personalities involved in the economic development of the continent are expected to attend the sixth annual conference of the UWS Center for African Research on Enterprise and Development (CAREED), which will be held online on Thursday 27 and Friday 28 January 2022.

The keynote address will be delivered by Professor Kevin Chika Urama, from the African Development Bank Group’s African Development Institute, while other speakers include Ethiopia’s Ambassador to the UK, Teferi Melesse. Desta; and Oluwaseun Akinola of Nigerian radio Splash FM.

The conference will address topical issues from across Africa, highlighting issues, opportunities for growth and the continent’s position in global trade, in the era of Covid-19 and beyond.

Conference Chair, Dr Adebisi Adewole said, “I am delighted that we have been able to assemble such a prestigious list of speakers for this event, which will examine Africa’s economic development opportunities.

“It will be a great opportunity to network with leading figures and learn about the current economic transformation that a growing number of African economies are experiencing.”

Professor John Struthers, Director of CAREED, added: “At CAREED, our vision is to contribute to the debate leading to the promotion and realization of Africa’s growing consumer market; vast natural resources; and the growing young workforce that is focused on positioning the continent for robust economic growth.

“Our annual conference plays a key role in this, while demonstrating the global ambition and far-reaching impact of the work we do here at the University of the West of Scotland.”

The sixth annual conference of the UWS Center for African Research on Business and Development is free, but pre-registration is required.
