Nigeria’s former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, is expected to officially join the 2023 presidential race, reports Naija News.

A statement on Friday from the chairman of his campaign group’s technical committee, Chief Raymond Dokpesi says Atiku will officially declare on Wednesday, March 23, 2022.

He added that the statement will be made at the Abuja International Conference Center at 11:00 a.m.

Atiku who was the 2019 presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is set to re-apply for the PDP ticket for the 2023 presidency.

It will be recalled that he has already received the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nomination and expression of interest form for the 2023 general election.

The presidential hope was submitted the form Thursday, March 17, 2022 by the North East Business Forum, the group responsible for purchasing the Interest Form.

Atiku said the gesture was a promise kept and that he appreciates the efforts of the forum.

Earlier, this online news platform also reported that Atiku warned that the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) might take a misstep. if he zones his 2023 presidential ticket South.

He argued that although the party invented zoning as a way to ensure that every region of the country has a sense of belonging, the PDP is not forced to zone its 2023 presidential ticket to the south.

According to Atiku, in an interview with party board members in Abuja on Tuesday, of the sixteen years the PDP was in power, fourteen were used by the south, hence the 2023 ticket should not no longer necessarily return to the region.

He added that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) may have an obligation to give the south its ticket, but the PDP should not be misled by the pressure around a southern presidency in 2023.
